Week 2 picks:
“Muffler” Mike:
COL @ LV
Las Vegas. I’m not convinced the Mammoth have fully turned the page on last season. I AM convinced that the Desert Dogs offense can finally break the “curse of 13” that has plagued them for the last 30 games.
CGY @ HFX
Halifax. Simply put, the Thunderbirds are in less of a rebuild mode right now than Calgary.
BUF @ ROC
Rochester. Going for the upset here, however minor. This Knighthawks offense is tailor-made for shootout-style games like we typically see against Buffalo.
ALB @ TOR
Albany. The FireWolves quickly put the OT loss from last week behind them, while the Rock have more unanswered questions about flat performances than they’d like to admit.
SD @ GA
Georgia. I expect this game to be close, but it will also be a bit of a statement game for the Swarm to the entire league.
Shawn:
Colorado vs Las Vegas
Pick – Colorado
I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a one-goal game. I’m going with Colorado as they looked good last week once they got their feet under them. Yes, Las Vegas went toe to toe with a very good Rochester team but I still feel like I need to bigger sample size.
Calgary vs Halifax
Pick – Halifax
This will be interesting to see as both teams are going through some rebuilding. I think it’ll come down to goaltending and Warren Hill is proven. Cam MacLeod looked good in the limited action he’s scene but still needs to prove himself as a starter.
Buffalo vs Rochester
Pick – Buffalo
I’ve got the Bandits but it isn’t going to be a cakewalk for the defending champs. A lot relies on the health of Rylan Hartley. That being said, Buffalo has too many weapons at their disposal.
Albany vs Toronto
Pick – Albany
This was a tough one. I’m going to give the slight edge to Albany. The Rock didn’t look good last week and until someone decides they want to get in close of offense it’s going to be an easy night for Doug Jamieson and the Firewolves.
San Diego vs Georgia
Pick – San Diego
If this was mid-season my pick may be different. I really do like the make up of this Georgia team. The difference will be that Georgia hasn’t played yet and it may take a quarter or two to get their legs under them.
Gary:
Colorado vs Las Vegas
Colorado wins.
With the offensive weapons that the Mammoth have, Las Vegas will be stretched very thin on defense. If Dillon Ward is playing as well as we know he can, the Mammoth will be able to shut down the budding Desert Dogs in this one.
Calgary vs Halifax
Halifax wins.
Both teams are in rebuild mode. It comes down to goaltending in my opinion. I still think Warren Hill is a world class goaltender, ready to steal games for his team while they are gelling.
Buffalo vs Rochester
Rochester wins.
I know most are going with the Bandits, but I was very impressed with what I saw from the revamped Knighthawks. Buffalo kept their team intact, and we all know the Matt Vinc angle. However, Vinc usually takes a while before he gets into playoff mode, and with no summer or fall ball under his belt, might be a bit rusty. Both Hartley and Hutchcraft are class goalies in the league and will do a fine job in the Knighthawks net. Conner Fields, Ryan Smith and company looked very comfortable and with a loud crowd at home will win a tight one.
Albany vs Toronto
Toronto wins.
The Rock have injury problems on defense, but that doesn’t explain the anemic offensive showing last week. They were embarrassed. I wouldn’t want to be the next team to play a veteran team that was just shown up on national TV. Look for Mark Matthews and Tom Schreiber to really take control of the offense. Defensively, they will need to be the old mean Rock defense if they want to pull this out. Albany will give Toronto all they can handle with Williams, Simmons, etc. and if Toronto isn’t careful this can be a repeat of last week.
San Diego vs Georgia
Georgia wins.
I absolutely love the team that John Arlotta and Eddie Comeau have assembled. They have great offense, great defense, good transition and solid goaltending. While the Seals have a strong veteran team, they give up a lot of opportunities and goals. If San Diego gets into a track meet or shootout, they will be in trouble in this game. Look for Lyle Thompson to have a big game to start the season.
Pat:
Colorado vs. Las Vegas
Colorado Mammoth
Calgary vs. Halifax
Halifax Thunderbirds
Buffalo vs. Rochester
Rochester Knighthawks
Albany vs. Toronto
Albany FireWolves
San Diego vs. Georgia
San Diego Seals
Caden:
Colorado vs. Las Vegas
While the Colorado comeback was cool, I feel as if they can’t replicate something like it, I’ll be taking Vegas here
Calgary vs. Halifax
I’m gonna take Halifax, best put above, Halifax is in a better spot than Calgary atm. And that’s not saying much
Buffalo vs. Rochester
This one will be great, flipping a coin because I can’t decide a winner. I’ll be taking Rochester, might be the closest game we see this weekend
Albany vs. Toronto
I’ll be taking Albany, my gut says Toronto but I’ll be pulling for my boys here. I feel as if the loss in OT put a bit of fire in them and they will come out swinging
San Diego vs. Georgia
This one is also a toss up, im gonna go with the team that’s played a game in San Diego but I expect it to be close
