Week 3 picks:
“Muffler” Mike:
BUF @ OTT
Buffalo. Both teams looked impressive in their season openers, and in different ways. Giving the edge to the Bandits based on their longer roster continuity, but this game won’t be a breeze.
ROC @ VAN
Vancouver. The Week 1 collapse against Colorado shouldn’t have happened, and the Warriors know it. They’ll make sure there’s no repeat performance in their home opener.
COL @ SD
Colorado. If I wasn’t convinced about the Mammoth turning the page last week, I am now. This game comes down to Ward out-dueling Origlieri in net by the slimmest of margins.
LV @ PHI
Philadelphia. While the Desert Dogs are showing they’re not an easy out, I think the Wings have a bit more depth and firepower to take the first of a home-and-home series.
CGY @ ALB
Albany. This will be closer than most may think, but in the end, defense and goaltending get the FireWolves the win.
TOR @ GA
Georgia. After the output I’ve seen the first two weeks, I don’t have much faith in the Rock, especially against a high-powered Swarm team.
HFX @ SASK
Saskatchewan. A gutsy win in Week 1 was just the thing the Rush needed to build confidence and belief that they are among the league’s best teams. The Thunderbirds will be searching for more answers after this one.
Shawn:
Buffalo vs Ottawa
Pick – Buffalo
Take nothing away from Ottawa as they will be a force to reckon with. However, the Bandits just seem to have that “it” factor. Everytime you think Buffalo is about to slow down they prove everyone wrong and that’s hard to bet against.
Rochester vs Vancouver
Pick – Vancouver
Both teams I don’t have a very good beat on. Are the Warriors the team we saw in the first half of their opening game or is it same-old same-old like in the second half? Rochester has also proved to have a lot of firepower but just can’t break through. With Rylan Hartley’s health in the air and a Curt Malawsky coached team I have to go with Vancouver.
Colorado vs San Diego
Pick – Colorado
Even at 1-1 I don’t think San Diego has played up to their standards. I have to give the advantage to Colorado as Dillon Ward seems back into his dominant form, while Chris Origlieri has struggled at times to begin the season.
Las Vegas vs Philadelphia
Pick – Philadelphia
I still like what the Wings are building despite their opening weekend loss. Meanwhile, yes, Las Vegas has improved but so have many other teams in the league and I don’t think the Desert Dogs have improved at the same rate.
Calgary vs Albany
Pick – Albany
This is the one game that I could see being a blowout. Calgary looked good in their first game they didn’t look nearly like a championship team. The Firewolves look like the dominant team we expected despite their opening weekend OT loss.
Toronto vs Georgia
Pick – Georgia
Right now the Rock give me absolutely no reason to pick them. Yes, they have a lot of injuries on defense but that doesn’t excuse the offense only scoring nine goals in two games. The Swarm are another well coached team that willl stifle this Toronto offense.
Halifax vs Saskatchewan
Pick – Saskatchewan
I feel like Saskatchewan‘s win over Albany showed they are the real deal this year (and that was without Levi Anderson in the line up). While, yes, Halifax put up 17 goals against Calgary: a) they will be going up again a tougher defense in my opinion and b) they also gave up 18 and are going up against another high-powered offense.
Gary:
Buffalo vs. Ottawa
Buffalo wins.
The Bandits are a championship pedigree team. They looked like they haven’t missed a beat. Ottawa looked good against a depleted Rock team, but this will be a huge challenge for them.
Rochester vs. Vancouver
Vancouver wins.
There is no way Malawsky and company sat well with the second half collapse against Colorado. Look for Vancouver to play like a team possessed. While Rochester has looked good, they still have a ways to go to be consistent.
Colorado vs. San Diego
San Diego wins.
While Colorado is for real, the Seals offense will stack up against any in the league. In a game like this, the veteran leadership on San Diego will be the difference.
Las Vegas vs. Philadelphia
Philadelphia wins.
While I don’t think the signing of Sowers will be the difference, this team showed they can hang with the top teams in the league. Las Vegas is still trying to get their chemistry together.
Calgary vs. Albany
Albany wins.
As impressive as the Roughnecks comeback was last week, the FireWolves are the most complete team in the league. There isn’t a weak spot on Albany. Look for the FireWolves to push the tempo all night.
Toronto vs. Georgia
Georgia wins.
These teams are headed in different directions. Toronto hasn’t given me anything to hold onto for the win. Defense has been poor, and offense has been non existent. The Swarm have so many weapons, and have one of the premier goalies in the league with Brett Dobson. Look for Lyle Thompson and Shayne Jackson to have big nights.
Halifax vs. Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan wins.
This Rush team is exciting! While Halifax has a lot of weapons, I think the edge goes the Rush in what could be the game of the week.
Pat:
Buffalo vs Ottawa
Buffalo Bandits
Rochester vs Vancouver
Rochester Knighthawks
Colorado vs San Diego
San Diego Seals
Las Vegas vs Wings
Las Vegas Desert Dogs
Calgary vs Albany
Albany Firewolves
Georgia vs Toronto
Georgia Swarm
Halifax vs Saskatchewan
Halifax Thunderbirds
Caden:
Buffalo v Ottawa
-Buffalo
Buffalo, I am sorry I ever went against you, and until I see any types of chink in the armor of this behemoth of a team, I can’t pick against you. Game 1 showed that this team is in mid season form already. I’ll take Buffalo.
Rochester v Vancouver
-Rochester
So I don’t know where to go here, it always seems like I’m in a coin toss situation each week. I wanna take Rochester here, I feel like this game will give them a chance to show the true power this team has.
Colorado v San Diego
-Colorado
I have gone against Colorado twice now and that ends here. Dillon Ward has been unbeatable it seems and it allows the Mammoth to take over offensively, I expect a Colorado win.
Las Vegas vs Philadelphia
-Philadelphia
I’m gonna go with Philly here, they were obviously so close to the victory in their last game and I think this will be the Wings game to win.
Calgary v Albany
-Albany
I’m taking Albany yet again, is anyone surprised? While I do feel confident in finding this win, Calgary showed in their first game that they can never truly be counted out. If Albany sticks to their game plan and do what they did against Toronto, they will walk away with a win.
Toronto v Georgia
-Georgia
Gary I’m sorry that we are bullying the Rock, but right now, I just don’t see many, if any reasons to side with the Rock. Georgia coming off a win in OT was great for them, and they will continue to their winning ways.
Halifax v Saskatchewan
-Saskatchewan
After both the Rush’s OT victory over Albany, and Halifax blowing multiple leads in their game to Calgary I’m gonna choose the Rush, in this one, I feel as if Saskatchewan is just gonna continue to build off their huge OT win against the FireWolves.
