Week 1 picks:
“Muffler” Mike:
TOR @ OTT
Ottawa. Buoyed by a new location and a hungry new fanbase, the Battle of Ontario begins with the underdogs taking the first meeting.
VAN @ COL
Vancouver. The Warriors make an early statement that this is (finally) their year for glory.
LV @ ROC
Rochester. I’m expecting a shootout here, which should favor the more potent Knighthawks offense.
SASK @ ALB
Albany. Probably the most razor-thin game of the weekend. I’m giving the edge to rookies Dyson Williams and Will Johansen over Levi Anderson and Jake Naso in their pro debuts.
PHI @ SD
Philadelphia. The Wings improved in all facets of the game with their offseason moves. The same can’t be said for the Seals.
Shawn:
Toronto vs Ottawa
Pick – Toronto
Despite early injuries, the Rock are destined for big things. Ottawa is a much improved team compared to last year but they aren’t on the same level as Toronto yet.
Vancouver vs Colorado
Pick – Vancouver
I like what they are building in Vancouver and getting off to a quick start is key. Getting Ryan Lee back for the Mammoth is big, but I’m not totally sold.
Las Vegas vs Rochester
Pick – Rochester
Rochester is going to be a dark horse this season. As for Vegas, I’m not sure if they did enough in the offseason to become contenders.
Saskatchewan vs Albany
Pick – Albany
Game of the week but I have to give the slight edge to Albany. Saskatchewan will be just fine, they are just running into a juggernaut in Week 1.
Philadelphia vs San Diego
Pick – San Diego
Philadelphia has improved. I will not doubt that. But it’s going to take some time for the offence to come together and the defence still needs to prove they are better than last year.
Gary:
Toronto vs. Ottawa
Toronto wins.
This team has been embarrassed twice by Buffalo in the playoffs, and have a chip because of it. This team has stayed the same and we’re tops in the league lady season. Ottawa is more powerful than years past (New York), but have a tall order for week one.
Vancouver vs. Colorado
Vancouver wins.
I have said all off season that the Warriors were going to be contenders this season. This will be a big test but I think they have too many weapons for Colorado to handle.
Las Vegas vs. Rochester
Rochester wins.
The Knighthawks addressed all of the issues I thought they had. Look for Fields and Smith to have big nights in this one.
Saskatchewan vs. Albany
Albany wins.
My early pick to win it all is Albany. They have so many weapons, and also Doug Jamieson in net! Saskatchewan has Improved but need a little time to get in sync. This will be an exciting nail-biter!
Philadelphia vs. San Diego
San Diego wins.
The Seals went to free agency to bolster their lineup… they are stacked! While the Wings are much improved, their chemistry still isn’t all there.
Pat:
Toronto vs. Ottawa
Toronto
Vancouver vs.Colorado
Vancouver
Las Vegas vs. Rochester
Rochester
Saskatchewan vs. Albany
Albany
Philadelphia vs. San Diego
Philadelphia
Caden:
Toronto v Ottawa
Ottawa, I feel as if the first game under the Black Bears moniker will give them an extra push and fight to come away with a win, plus I feel like Nathan Grenon will ride the high of play for his home town team that it will give them a win
Vancouver v Colorado
I’ll go with Vancouver here, Vancouver will continue to get better as the season gets on, I expect for them to start of strong
Las Vegas v Rochester
I’m gonna pick Rochester here, any time I saw them play last season they always surprised me and I feel like they are gonna do that this year as well, so I’ll go with them
Saskatchewan v Albany
Albany, this is both 100% bias but also most likely the correct answer (I’m sorry Shawn) After the season they had last year I expect another banger year out of Kurtz, Simmons and Dougie, while Dyson getting his first shot will be amazing
Philadelphia v San Diego
This one is a toss up, I’m gonna take Philly, I feel like the loss of Staats will hurt plus HOW they lost him will kind of be like a black eye over the team for the first couple of games, I expect Philly to handle them
