Week 10 picks:

“Muffler” Mike:

Saskatchewan vs. Calgary

Saskatchewan. I think the latest installment of the Battle of the Prairies will be a nail-biter. While Calgary really needs to turn things around, I can’t bet against the well-oiled machine that is the Rush at present.

Philadelphia vs. San Diego

San Diego. Finally, a win at home!(as I expected and predicted…lol) Sweeping this series starts a bigger upward climb in the standings for the Seals.

Georgia vs. Halifax

Georgia. The trade of Dawson Theede took many by surprise, and raises questions as to whether Halifax is already looking toward next year. Georgia is slowly but surely erasing people’s doubts about their rebuild, with Brett Dobson playing arguably the best lacrosse of his career to date.

Vancouver vs. Rochester

Vancouver. First of a crucial home-and-home for both teams. I’m taking CDB to outduel Hartley in what should be an instant classic.

Ottawa vs. Toronto

Toronto. The Rock have regrouped following the injury to Nick Rose two weeks ago. If they can keep Ottawa in check late, they can pick up a win, and possibly a few more spots in the standings.

Buffalo vs. Colorado

Colorado. The return of Andrew Kew to the lineup has quietly put the Mammoth on the short list of Cup contenders. While Buffalo gets two defenders back from injury, I don’t see their offense solving Dillon Ward, who is playing at a level reminiscent of his 2022 Finals MVP run.

Oshawa vs. Las Vegas

Oshawa. It may not be the halfway point in terms of weeks or total games, but it is the halfway point in the FireWolves schedule. Oshawa desperately needs a win to stay in the hunt for the postseason, and a re-ignited offense facing an inconsistent Desert Dogs defense is just what the doctor ordered.

Shawn:

Saskatchewan vs. Calgary

Pick – Saskatchewan

It’ll be interesting to see how Saskatchewan comes off of a bye this past week. Regardless, they are one of the most well-rounded teams in the league. I think it’ll be the same old story for Calgary. They’ll keep it close but can’t find that extra gear.

Philadelphia vs. San Diego

Pick – San Diego

Game 2 of the home-and-home. I still have reservations about the identity of this Wings team and players’ roles. The Seals are starting to find their stride and I think they’ll pull out another close one.

Georgia vs. Halifax

Pick – Georgia

I went back and forth on this one. Both teams have been wildly consistent. The Thunderbirds need to get their discipline issues figured out and you have to wonder about the Dawson Theede trade and if they are looking toward the future. This could come down to goaltending and Brett Dobson is one of the best right now.

Vancouver vs. Rochester

Pick – Rochester

Rochester is the real deal but I’m wondering about Vancouver. The Warriors haven’t been as dominant as we expected. Rochester has been more consistent and the youth will rise to the top.

Ottawa vs. Toronto

Pick – Toronto

I like the make-up of this Rock team. The youth movement is paying off. Ottawa needs to get secondary scoring and can’t rely on fourth-quarter comebacks.

Buffalo vs. Colorado

Pick – Buffalo

This is likely the first time the Bandits have faced adversity in the past three years. Colorado is going to be tough but Buffalo’s line-up has too much experience to let the bad times snowball.

Oshawa vs. Las Vegas

Pick – Las Vegas

My biggest fear is Oshawa’s offence. They move the ball well but maybe too well and need to shoot more. Vegas’s defence and goaltending are suspect but I think the offence will make up for it.

Gary:

Saskatchewan vs. Calgary

Saskatchewan wins.

Saskatchewan is the most dominant team in the league.  I don’t think the Calgary defense can contain this juggernaut.  In net Frank Scigliano is having an MVP season as well.

Philadelphia vs. San Diego

San Diego wins.

The Seals looked like they fixed what ailed them and are ready to attack.  A healthy Chris Origlieri will play a big role in stopping the Philadelphia offense.

Georgia vs. Halifax

Georgia wins

The second half of last week’s game against Toronto showed just how dominant this Swarm team can be.  To compliment the offense is the All-Star play of goalie Brett Dobson with a GAA under 7.00!  Halifax has had discipline problems, if that happens here it could be a long night.

Vancouver vs. Rochester

Rochester wins.

The Knighthawks didn’t play well against Toronto two weeks ago.  That has sat with them through a bye week.  They are chomping at the bit to get back to it.  Look for the pressure to start early!  For Vancouver, the offense looked great in the first half last week vs. Ottawa, then slowed down.  For the Warriors to beat the Knighthawks they will need sixty full minutes.

Ottawa vs. Toronto

Toronto wins.

Each game Toronto’s rookies show more and more.  They are on the cusp of doing something really great.  Troy Holowchuk looked good as a starter and should be solid.  For Ottawa, they will need more than  just Jeff Teat to win this game.

Buffalo vs. Colorado

Colorado wins.

Buffalo has some consistency issues this season.  Colorado is rolling.  I think the duo of Hannah and Kew will give the Bandits defense fits.

Oshawa vs. Las Vegas

Oshawa wins.

The FireWolves are growing together.  The acquired muscle will give the offense room to work.  Look for a big game from Doug Jamieson.

Warriors

Pat:

Saskatchewan vs. Calgary

Saskatchewan

Philadelphia vs. San Diego

San Diego

Georgia vs. Halifax

Georgia

Vancouver vs. Rochester

Rochester

Ottawa vs. Toronto

Toronto

Buffalo vs. Colorado

Colorado

Oshawa vs. Las Vegas

Las Vegas

Caden:

Saskatchewan vs. Calgary

Pick: Saskatchewan

The Rush are just the more complete team right now and usually control the pace against Calgary. Unless the Roughnecks get a big night in transition, Saskatchewan should grind this one out.

Philadelphia vs. San Diego

Pick: San Diego

San Diego’s offense has more pop and they’re better at finishing chances. Philly can hang around early, but the Seals’ depth usually shows as the game goes on.

Georgia vs. Halifax

Pick: Halifax

Halifax plays with way more consistency and doesn’t give away many easy looks. Georgia has flashes, but they struggle to keep momentum for a full 60.

Vancouver vs. Rochester

Pick: Rochester

This feels like a tight game, but Rochester is more comfortable in close, ugly battles. Vancouver can score, but the Knighthawks’ structure gives them the edge late.

Ottawa vs. Toronto

Pick: Toronto

Toronto just has too much firepower and experience in big moments. Ottawa competes hard, but keeping up with the Rock for four quarters is a tough ask.

Buffalo vs. Colorado

Pick: Buffalo

Buffalo’s offense is relentless and they’re hard to slow down when they get rolling. Colorado can score with anyone, but their defense can leak goals against elite teams.

Oshawa vs. Las Vegas

Pick: Las Vegas

Vegas has the edge in overall talent and pace, especially offensively. Oshawa will fight, but Las Vegas should be able to pull away once the game opens up.
