The Six Nations Chiefs (8-1) traveled to Brampton to face the Excelsiors (0-7) in Major Series Lacrosse action Thursday night at the Memorial Arena in Brampton, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Warren Hill in net for Six Nations facing Connor O’Toole in net for Brampton.

The Brampton Excelsiors played a strong, physical, defensive game for roughly 35 minutes, before the Six Nations machine was able to get rolling full steam.  Tied 3-3 after one period, Brampton looked very comfortable matching up with the Chiefs, and in the occasional breakdown, Connor O’Toole was playing strong in the Excelsiors goal.

The turning point was a three goal run in just under two minutes that saw a 5-4 nail-biter, turn into an 8-4 uphill climb at then end of the second.  The third period saw Six Nations seize control, outscoring their young foes 4-1 for a 12-5 final.

There were plenty of positives to be taken from the Excelsiors performance.  They were able to give this well oiled Chiefs machine a run for their money for the majority of the game.  With the addition of Mike Trilo, the offense is now starting to take shape, with Bowie Horsman, Triolo, and  Finlay Thomson.  The defense played strong most of the night, and Connor O’Toole was good in net all night.

To The Game:

The Excelsiors got on the board first with a shot from in close from Finlay Thomson off a Briley Maxwell pass at 5:07, but Randy Staats was able to blast a Shayne Jackson pass from the outside at 5:33 to tie the game.

Ryan Smith gave the Chiefs the lead finishing a Steve Priolo pass in transition at 11:20, but Mike Triolo’s first, as well as Bowie Horsman with a blast from in front 0:23 seconds apart had Brampton in the lead with just 1:22 left in the period.

With the Excelsiors goalie on the bench, Brampton looked to get the last shot in the period.   However, and arrant shot with time left on the clock allowed Tyson Bell to scoop up the loosey and scored into the empty net at 19:58.

After one period, Six Nations 3 Brampton 3.

Second Period:

The second period was evenly played for more than 15:00 before the Chiefs really got rolling.

Mike Trilo got his second of the night for the Excelsiors on the power-play to get things started off a Ben Baker pass at 2:57, but Lyle Thompson replied with a laser off a Cody Jamieson feed at 8:42.

Dhane Smith gave the Chiefs the lead with a high to low rocket off a Tim Edwards pass at 11:31, followed by a late barrage of three goals to take charge of the game.

Josh Byrne scored from in close off a Justin Martin pass at 16:02, followed by Lyle Thompson’s second of the game off a Steve Priolo pass 0:12 seconds later.  Dhane Smith then fired a laser to the corner off a Ryan Smith pass at 17:55.

After two periods, Six Nations 8 Brampton 4.

Third Period:

Lyle Thompson opened the third period scoring with a laser from the side of the net off a Cody Jamieson pass at 3:22, But Finlay Thomson answered with his second of the night off a Coltrane Tyson feed at 8:36.
