
The Burnaby Lakers extended their win streak to three games with a 14-8 victory over the Langley Thunder on Tuesday night.
It was a huge win for the Lakers, who now move two games ahead of Langley in the race to avoid last place in the WLA. The three-game win streak puts Burnaby (4-7) within striking distance of the New Westminster Salmonbellies (4-5) for fifth place.
Finn Halladay led the way for the Lakers with a hat trick and three assists, while Ethan M’Lot had a goal and five assists. Jake Young and Austin Ducommun also recorded hat tricks for Burnaby, while Ryan Favaro added a pair of goals.
Between the pipes, Marc Rippberger got the start and stopped 46 of 55 shots for the win.
Langley was led by Connor Robinson with two goals and two assists, while Nathaniel Kozevnikov had a goal and two assists. Dante Kulas added two goals and an assist.
With Frank Scigliano having been traded to Victoria earlier this week, Keegan Okino got the start for Langley and stopped 43 of 57 shots.
First Period
After a quick start by the Thunder, the Lakers rebounded to dominate the rest of the opening frame.
Dante Kulas opened the scoring for Langley just 10 seconds into the game, and Ben VanderKley scored 35 seconds later to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead.
After that, the Lakers went on a seven-goal run.
Halladay got Burnaby on the board at the 3:38 mark, and M’Lot tied the game 2-2 at 7:28.
Darrel Hunter scored unassisted at 8:33 to give the Lakers the lead, and Ducommun scored just 23 seconds later to make it 4-2.
Brodie Kent found Carter Torok at 9:15 to put the Lakers ahead by three. A power-play goal by Favaro and an unassisted marker from Ducommun rounded out the seven-goal run.
Kulas found the back of the net with 2:30 left on the clock as the Thunder trailed 7-3 after the first intermission.

Second Period
Both teams traded goals throughout the second period.
Halladay opened the scoring 1:13 into the period, but Kozevnikov replied just 14 seconds later for Langley.
Favaro restored Burnaby’s five-goal lead at the 2:47 mark. However, Robinson found the back of the net just under a minute later to make it 9-5.
Kent continued to distribute the ball, this time finding Young for a goal at the 7:43 mark. Robinson rounded out the second-period scoring with 4:18 left on the clock as the Lakers took a 10-6 lead into the third.
Third Period
The Burnaby Lakers pulled away early in the third period to put the game out of reach.
Halladay opened the scoring at the 4:36 mark, and Young scored on a delayed penalty to extend the Lakers’ lead to six.
Ducommun capped the three-goal run at the 10:32 mark to put Burnaby ahead 13-6.
Langley got back on the board at 11:05 on a goal by Connor Watson, but Burnaby answered with a shorthanded goal from Young with 4:50 left on the clock.
Max Semple rounded out the scoring for Langley with 3:32 remaining. However, it wasn’t enough as the Burnaby Lakers extended their win streak to three games with a 14-8 victory.
