The Calgary Roughnecks and Ottawa Black Bears met at Canadian Tire Centre to kick off Week 11. The Roughnecks were on a three-game losing streak and sitting in last place in the standings at 1-6. The Black Bears came in with a 4-5 record, but with a 2-3 record at home and on a two-game losing streak of their own. Jeff Teat had nine points as Ottawa used a late run to win 11-9, evening their overall record and their home record.

Calgary doubled up in the first half

Tanner Cook (3:06) got Calgary on the board first. The rest of the quarter was quiet on the scoreboard until Connor Kearnan (13:36) and Jeff Teat (14:18) struck to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes of play. Kearnan netted his second on a power play just 15 seconds into the second quarter, but Cook (5:07) scored his second to keep it a one-goal game. A goal from Sam Firth a minute later (6:08) gave the Black Bears a 4-2 lead, but Tyler Pace (7:17) answered for the Roughnecks. Ottawa finally got some breathing room when Teat scored his second (8:43) and Rob Hellyer (9:22) followed for a 6-3 halftime lead.

Calgary retakes the lead but can’t hold on

Pace went back-to-back (1:14 power play; 2:20 power play) to cut the Black Bears’ lead to 6-5. Travis Longboat (3:15) pushed the margin back to two, but Haiden Dickson scored Calgary’s third straight power play goal (3:52) to keep it a one-goal game. Teat’s hat trick goal (10:28) made it 8-6 in favor of Ottawa going into the final frame.

Calgary went on a three-goal run to open the fourth quarter. Markers from Riley Loewen (3:19), Dickson (4:31), and Cook (6:34) gave the Roughnecks a 9-8 lead. However, the Black Bears would counter with their own three-goal run. Teat’s fourth goal of the game (8:25) tied it, Reilly O’Connor (12:59) put Ottawa back in the lead, and Matt Marinier iced it with an empty net goal (14:56).
