Chiefs Hold Off Rock Charge For Victory

The Six Nations Chiefs (16-2) visited the Oakville Rock (5-12) Monday night in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario.

The goaltending match-up had Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs facing Landon Kells in net for the Rock.

As has been their motive operandi all season, the Six Nations Chiefs kept things close all evening, only to put things in another gear in the third period for the victory.

Led by Dawson Theede (3g,1a) the Chiefs were able to get out in front early, leading wire to wire for the 10-6 victory.

Transition was the name of this game with
the teams combining for seven of the sixteen goals in the game.

To The Game:

Six Nations got things going quickly when Dawson Theede fired a Josh Byrne pass to the top corner at 0:52 seconds, followed by Nonkon Thompson with an in close blast off a Justin Martin pass at 5:27.

Ty English got the Rock rolling with a sidearm snipe off a Josh Dawick pass at 5:53, but Ryan Smith wired a Brendan Bomberry pass to the far side at 14:17.

Kaden Brennan got Oakville within one with a  a great individual effort unassisted 0:32 seconds later.

After one period, Six Nations 3 Oakville 2.

Second Period:

Six Nations got things moving in the second period with Tim Edwards converting a Kellen LeClair pass at 3:39, followed by Justin Martin going coast to coast off a loose ball unassisted at 6:37.

Sam LeClair got Oakville back on track with a low laser to the corner off a Josh Dawick pass at 8:11, but Dawson Theede converted a Steve Priolo pass in transition at 10:55.

Bill Hostrawser scored in transition for the Rock off a loose ball at 12:32, but Lyle Thompson then added a highlight reel goal from the side of the net off a Tyson Bell pass at 13:10.

Josh Dawick then scored with a low to low laser off a Sam LeClair feed at 14:44 to keep the Rock close.

After two periods, Six Nations 7 Oakville 5.

Third Period:

Eoin MacKay got Oakville within one off a Zack Kearney pass at 3:15, but Dawson Theede replied with his third of the night off a Lyle Thompson pass 0:40 seconds later.

The Chiefs put it in another gear to finish the game.  Shayne Jackson blasted a Ryan Smith pass at 8:13, followed by Brendan Bomberry finishing a Josh Byrne pass at 10:57.

The Rock tried to get back in the game, but rhe Six Nations defense was up to the challenge, shutting Oakville down the rest of the way.

Final score, Six Nations 10 Oakville 6.
Shots on goal favored the Chiefs 53-48.
