Chiefs Quick Start Helps Them Coast To Victory

The Six Nations Chiefs (5-1) traveled east to face the Cobourg Kodiaks (2-4) at the Cobourg Community Centre in Cobourg, Ontario Sunday evening.

The goaltending match-up had Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs facing Jackson Brown in net for the Kodiaks.

Latrell Harris set the stage early with a bounced shot goal on a breakaway for Six Nations.  The Chiefs then kept the pressure up scoring nine of the next ten goals over a spand of 35:20 to take control of the game. 

Ryan Smith (2g,0a), Dawson Theede (2g,1a), Larson Sundown (2g,1a), and Shayne Jackson (2g,1a) had a pair of goals each to lead Six Nations to the 12-7 victory.  The Kodiaks were led by Brock Haley (2g,4a), and Holden Patterson (2g,0a) in the loss. 

Both goalies were excellent in the game.  Doug Jamieson made 42 saves on 49 shots, while Jackson Brown made 43 saves on 55 shots.

To The Game:

Latrell Harris opened the scoring all alone with a bounced shot that beat Jackson Brown at 6:22, but Holden Patterson finished a Brock Haley pass to tie the game just 0:30 seconds later.

The Chiefs started to take charge when Dawson Theede blasted a Cody Jamieson pass to the corner at 11:20, followed by Ryan Smith converting a Larson Sundown feed at 12:09.

Sundown then added one himself off a Cody Jamieson pass at 14:15, followed by Theede’s second of the period on the power-play off a Jamieson feed as well at 15:57.

Alex Marinier got the Kodiaks back on the board on a great individual effort unassisted at 16:20, but late goals from Brendan Bomberry and Shayne Jackson had the Chiefs up by six at the break.

After one period, Six Nations 7 Cobourg 2.

Second Period:

A fairly evenly played period saw only two goals all period.  The Chiefs capitalized first on an outside shot from Cody Jamieson off a Tyson Bell pass in transition at 1:27, followed by a Shayne Jackson pass off a Brendan Bomberry feed at 15:59 on the power-play.

After two periods, Six Nations 9 Cobourg 2.

Third Period:

Larson Sundown opened the third period scoring on the power-play with a sidearm snipe off a Cody Jamieson pass at 9:00.  Cobourg would make the game interesting going on a three goal run.

ß goals sandwiched an Aaron Woods goal making the score 10-5 for Six Nations with just 4:22 remaining.

Ryan Smith scored his second of the game off a long lead pass from Doug Jamieson at 16:41, but a power-play goal from Holden Patterson off an Alex Marinier pass at 17:37, followed by Taylor Dooley converting a Brock Haley pass also on the power-play 0:09 seconds later tightened the score once again.

Ty Logan sealed the deal for the Chiefs with a transition goal off a Latrell pass at 18:37.

Final score, Six Nations 12 Cobourg 7.
