With a 10–5 win on Tuesday night, the Coquitlam Adanacs dealt a blow to the Burnaby Lakers’ chances of making the playoffs.

Burnaby drops to 4–11 and now sits four points back of Maple Ridge for the fourth and final playoff spot, with just three games remaining.

The good news for Burnaby is that two of their final three games are against the fifth-place Langley Thunder and Maple Ridge before finishing the season against the first-place Victoria Shamrocks.

For Coquitlam, the win moves them back into a tie for first place with Victoria at 12–2-1, though the Shamrocks hold the season series over the Adanacs.

Adanacs Blank Lakers in the First

Christian Del Bianco pitched a first-period shutout for the Adanacs, stopping all nine shots he faced while his offence put up three goals.

James Rahe opened the scoring just 37 seconds into the game, followed by Kean Moon at 5:06.

Adam Noakes added an unassisted goal at 13:21 to give Coquitlam a 3–0 lead after 20 minutes.

Adanacs Pull Further Ahead

Tyson Kirkness scored unassisted 50 seconds later, and Dennon Armstrong rounded out the run at 9:16.

Jacob Dunbar finally broke through for Burnaby 19 seconds later, and Ben McDonald added another at 13:58 to cut the deficit to 7–2.

Moon capped the second-period scoring with 3:38 remaining, giving Coquitlam a commanding 8–2 lead heading into the third as Coquitlam looked to deal a blow to Burnaby’s playoff chances.

Lakers Put Together a Late Charge

Coquitlam struck first in the third as Jalen Chaster scored on the power play at 1:12. Chaster added another off a feed from Erik Turner at 5:28, stretching the lead to 10–2.

Burnaby mounted a late push but the eight-goal gap was too much to overcome.

Silas Richmond scored Burnaby’s third goal at 10:02, followed by Rowan Birrell at 13:51.

With the extra attacker on the floor, Dunbar scored his second of the night at 18:03, but the Lakers ultimately took a blow to their playoff hopes with a 10–5 loss.
