The Brampton Excelsiors (3-13) traveled east to face the Cobourg Kodiaks (6-11) in the back end of a home and home series in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Jack Berger Arena in Port Hope, Ontario.
The goaltending match-up had Riley Hutchcraft in net for the Excelsiors facing Jackson Brown in net for the Kodiaks.
The Excelsiors have enjoyed the coming of age of their offense the last couple of games. Led by Mike Triolo (4g,3a), James Whiteford (2g,6a), Bowie Horsman 2g,0a), and Zach Sunderland (2g,0a) the Excelsiors exploded for nine goals in the second to take control of the game. Cobourg started strong led by Ty Thompson (3g,0a), Aaron Woods (2g,3a), and Kieran McKay (2g,0a), but wasn’t able to overcome the barrage of the Excelsiors in the second period.
Brampton continued to dominate in the third outscoring the Kodiaks 3-1, for a 14-9 victory. With the win, the Excelsiors swept the home and home mini series.
To The Game:
Kieran McKay opened the scoring quickly for Cobourg converting an Aaron Woods pass just 0:21 seconds into the game, followed by James Donnelly with a blast to the corner off an Alex Marinier pass at 6:46.
Mike Triolo answered with a power-play goal on a sidearm snipe from in front off an Eric Ward pass at 10:23, but Alex Marinier answered back for Cobourg also on the power-play finishing a Zach Thompson pass shorthanded at 13:23.
Triolo scored again for the Excelsiors off a loose ball unassisted at 13:59, but Ty Thompson replied with a low to low laser off a Zach Thompson pass at 15:43 on the power-play.
After one period, Cobourg 4 Brampton 2.
Second Period:
Brampton’s offense got rolling in the second period with three unanswered goals to take the lead. Jacob Janke scored off a Nate Ruff pass at 0:13, followed by Zach Sunderland with a blast off a Mike Triolo pass 0:25 seconds later. Triolo then gave the Excelsiors the lead with a laser to the corner off a Finn Thomson pass at 3:38.
Aaron Woods tied the game with a sidearm snipe off a Nathan Pouliot pass at 4:06, but Triolo struck again with an outside blast off a Braydon Hickey pass 0:30 seconds later.
Ty Thompson put Cobourg in the lead again with a pair of goals. The first was on the power-play with a low to high laser off an Aaron Woods pass at 6:28, followed by a quick stick off another Woods feed at 8:07.
Brampton erupted for four goals to change the complexion of the game. James Whiteford converted a Mike Triolo pass at 8:42, followed by Bowie Horsman with a low laser off an Eric Ward pass at 9:09.
Whiteford added his second of the game off a Ward feed on the power-play at 12:54, followed by Horsman with his second of the period off a James Whiteford pass at 14:30.
Kieran McKay stopped the run with a goal from in close off a Jeremi Phoenix pass at 14:41, but Braydon Hickey replied with a low shot off a James Whiteford pass at 18:13.
After two periods, Brampton 11 Cobourg 8.

Third Period:
Nate Ruff opened the third period scoring with a blast off a Reed Kurtz pass in transition at 4:07, followed by Zach Sunderland with an outside shot off a James Whiteford feed at 11:14.
Aaron Woods got one back for Cobourg with a low to high shot to the top corner off a James Donnelly pass at 13:19, but Ben Baker replied in transition off a long lead pass from Riley Hutchcraft at 19:35.
Final score, Brampton 14 Cobourg 9.
Shots on goal favored the Excelsiors 66-44.
