After the Albany FireWolves fell to the Rochester Knighthawks last week, they came into South Philly with empty bellies, ready to eat some Wings and cheesesteaks. Albany’s defense did a great job keeping the Wings’ primary goal scorers off the board for a good portion of this game. Joe Resetarits had some assists, but he could not find the back of the net. Mitch Jones didn’t score a goal until late in the fourth quarter. Brennan O’Neill was ineffective as far as scoring goals.
In losing 12-10 to the FireWolves, the Philadelphia Wings have now dropped five straight and six of their last seven games. That includes both ends of home-and-home series against Albany and Halifax. They are currently tied for 10th place with Vancouver in the Unified Standings. In my opinion, if Philly wants to make the playoffs, they need to treat every game from here on out like it’s the playoffs.

FireWolves attacking from all angles
This Albany FireWolves offense did a number on Philly’s defense. Alex Simmons set the tone for this Albany offense, scoring off the pick and roll, picking up loose balls in the offensive zone and scoring, taking the ball to the house and scoring. Plus, Simmons did a great job of assisting teammates. In his two meetings against Philly this season, Simmons racked up 12 points on 5 goals and 7 assists.
Kyle Jackson is the newest addition to Albany’s roster and a former player for the Wings. He reminded Philly about the level of havoc he can cause, recording a hat-trick along with a pair of assists. Albany will see if they can build on this momentum and slow down the Swarm as Georgia comes into their house next week.
New action figures shining in Philly
Even though Philly fell short in this game, their brand-new action figures were making an immediate impact. Mitch de Snoo played great on both ends of the floor, showing Philadelphia his physical defense, not afraid to get his hands dirty. He showed he can also score as well, doing a great job of picking his shots. My thought is that this is what Philly needed: a good two-way player. Transition player Chris Corbeil helped contribute to the scoreboard for Philly as well. Philly’s secondary scorers would step up: players like Sam LeClair, Phil Caputo, and Mike McCannell. Colorado will be in Philly next week. We shall see if the Wings can get back in the win column against the Mammoth.
