Clash Under the Saturday night lights of Highmark Stadium, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds secured a 1–0 victory over Westchester SC in front of 4,752 raucous supporters. The win, powered by a crisp finish from Bertin Jacquesson in the 15th minute, was the Hounds’ first win in Jägermeister Cup play. The breakthrough came early, as Junior Etou unlocked the defense with a pinpoint cross from the left wing. Jacquesson timed his run to perfection, steering the ball past Westchester’s keeper to notch his first goal of the season and give the Riverhounds the lead. From there, Pittsburgh seized control of the tempo.

With smart possession play and midfield triangles orchestrated by Robbie Mertz and Danny Griffin, the home side effectively played keep-away, forcing Westchester into a defensive posture for the remainder of the first half. The second half told a more pragmatic story. With cup matches prone to physical flare-ups, the Hounds appeared focused on preserving both their lead and their health. After a brief flurry of challenges—including a caution to Sean Suber and a concerning head-to-head collision between Max Broughton and Juan Carlos Obregón—Pittsburgh shifted into risk-management mode. Substitutions were used wisely to preserve legs, and the team’s shape tightened stifling any rhythm Westchester attempted to build. The Riverhounds will turn their focus back to league action next Friday against New Mexico United.
