The Las Vegas Desert Dogs did a great job of defending the dog house from Philly on Saturday night, winning 10-7. The Desert Dogs would start this game on the right track, going up 4-1 in the first quarter with four different goal scorers. Philly only had one lead in this game and that was the first goal of the game. After that it was all Las Vegas, keeping the Wings at arms length. Adam Poitras, transition player for the Desert Dogs, would go off, recording a hat trick. Las Vegas did a amazing job of finding Philadelphia’s weak side of the defense and attacking it. Former Philadelphia Wings star forward Mitch Jones was kept in check; however, he did have 3 assists on the night, as did Jonathan Donville. This a great win for the Las Vegas Desert Dogs as they head into a bye week.

Las Vegas Hands Philadelphia Another Tough Loss

Brennan O’Neill started things on the right track, but ultimately the Wings couldn’t get any sustained offense going, scoring back-to-back goals just once in the entire game. O’Neill had a pair of goals and three assists, while Eric Fannell had two goals and two assists. After a big season debut against Rochester with seven points, Michael Sowers managed just one goal against Las Vegas. Even worse, Philly’s transition was non-existent. Dustyn Birkhof, Patrick Foley, Liam Patten, Isaiah Davis-Allen, Evan Messenger, and Ryan Wagner were all held to zero points in the game.

It looked like the Wings were trying different offensive game plans: scoring off the rush and off set screen plays. But very little was working against Desert Dogs goaltender Landon Kells. I do have to give credit to Philadephia goaltender Nick Damude for doing his best to keep Philly in this game by stopping 48 of 58 shots on the night. Philly will try to bounce back into win column as they play a home-and-home series with the San Diego Seals over the next two weeks.
