Late Collapse Costs Salmonbellies in Loss to Adanacs

A late collapse by the New Westminster Salmonbellies cost them, as they fell 9–8 to the Coquitlam Adanacs on Thursday night.

Coquitlam trailed 8–5 with 8:21 left in the game before scoring four goals in a span of 4:18 to complete the comeback. Adam Noakes scored both the tying and game-winning goals.

New Westminster outshot Coquitlam 50–48, but Christian Del Bianco was sensational between the pipes for the Adanacs, making 41 saves.

David Charney led Coquitlam with a hat trick and two assists, while Noakes and Kean Moon each scored twice.

For New Westminster, Mitch Jones had a six-point night with four goals and two assists. Frank Scigliano took the loss in goal and is now 1–3 since joining the Salmonbellies.

Exchange of Goals

Coquitlam opened the scoring 6:30 into the game, with Charney scoring a power-play marker. New Westminster replied at 8:08 with Phil Caputo scoring unassisted on the power play.

Mitch Jones gave the Salmonbellies the lead at 10:13, assisted by Caputo and Logan Schuss.

Moon rounded out the first-period scoring with a power-play goal at 15:08, tying the game 2–2 after one.

Deadlock in the Second

The deadlock continued into the second period with both teams scoring twice.

Jones scored at 2:38 to give New Westminster a 3–2 lead, but Moon answered unassisted at 4:26 to tie it again.

Haiden Dickson restored the Salmonbellies’ lead at 12:30, but Charney replied with 2:30 left to make it 4–4 after two periods.

Late Collapse by the Salmonbellies

New Westminster started strong in the third. Jones scored on the power play at 3:34, followed by Ben Soenen at 4:51 to make it 6–4.

Charney responded at 6:09, but Jones and Ryan Martel added goals to make it 8–5 for New Westminster with 8:39 left. It appeared the Salmonbellies were on their way to victory.

Then the late collapse began. Riley Isaacs buried a feed from Jodon Magnuson at 11:57 to cut the lead to two.

Jalen Chaster scored on the power play off a pass from Clark Walter with 6:55 remaining to make it a one-goal game.

Noakes tied the game with 4:38 left, then netted the winner just 53 seconds later to give Coquitlam the 9–8 win after a late collapse by the Salmonbellies.
