For the second time this season, the PLL record for most goals in a game has been tied.

During the California Redwoods’ 16-14 win over the Utah Archers, Dylan Molloy tied the PLL record with seven goals. This comes after Mac O’Keefe also scored seven goals in a game on June 5.

Trailing 12-10 heading into the fourth quarter, California came from behind, outscoring Utah 6-2 in the final frame, including a two-point goal from Chris Kavanagh.

Molloy led the Redwoods with nine points, while Kavanagh finished with three goals and a two-point goal for five points.

Leo Johnson led the Archers with four goals, while Sam King had a hat trick and an assist for four points.

At the faceoff dot, TD Ierlan got the better of Mike Sisselberger, winning 19 of 31 draws.

As expected, it was a goaltending duel between Brett Dobson and Dillon Ward. Dobson stopped 18 shots for a 54.5 per cent save percentage, while Ward made 15 saves for a 53.6 per cent save percentage.

First Quarter

Molloy got the Redwoods on the board first, unassisted, three minutes into the game. He faked out a defender and found the back of the net to give California the early lead.

Kavanagh then converted off a feed from Molloy at the 3:22 mark to put the Redwoods up by two.

The Archers responded right back. King scored at the 4:49 mark and struck again at 8:57 to tie the game 2-2.

Sam English, with some fancy footwork, found the back of the net for the Redwoods with 2:21 left on the clock to put California back in front.

Utah responded with two goals in the final minute of the quarter. Ryan Stines scored with 45 seconds left off a feed from Piper Bond.

Johnson then scored unassisted with four seconds left on the clock to give the Archers a 4-3 lead at the first break.

Second Quarter

Molloy came out on fire in the second quarter. He scored 56 seconds into the frame and added another at 2:23 to put the Redwoods up 5-4.

The Archers answered with a pair of goals of their own. Connor Fields found the back of the net at 4:33, followed by King at 5:41 to put Utah up 6-5.

Kavanagh tied the game with a shot on the run that went far side at the 6:18 mark to make it 6-6.

Johnson rounded out the scoring with 30 seconds left on the clock as the Archers held a 7-6 lead at halftime.

Third Quarter

Utah opened the scoring 1:52 into the third quarter when Tre Leclaire scored an unassisted marker to put the Archers up by two.

Not to be outdone, the Redwoods responded with a two-goal run. Andrew McAdorey scored at the 4:30 mark, followed by Molloy again at 5:57 to tie the game 8-8.

The Archers regained a two-goal lead late in the quarter. Bond scored a two-point goal at 7:48 to make it 10-8. Johnson then found the back of the net at 8:18 to give Utah a three-goal lead.

Molloy got the Redwoods back on the board with 2:37 left on the clock. However, Stines replied 30 seconds later to make it 12-9.

TD Ierlan scored off a shot just inside the two-point arc with 1:50 left on the clock as the Redwoods trailed 12-10 heading into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

Molloy struck again for his sixth goal to open the fourth quarter, scoring from in close at the 1:31 mark.

Kavanagh then hit a crucial two-point goal at 2:29 to tie the game at 13-13.

Molloy tied the PLL record with his seventh goal of the game, a highlight-reel behind-the-back, bar-down finish at the 3:34 mark.

Aiden Danenza scored at 4:04 for the Redwoods as California started to pull away, taking a 15-13 lead.

Leclaire got the Archers back on the board at the 5:27 mark, but Kavanagh replied 3:10 later to keep the Redwoods ahead by two.
