1) Can the club neutralize Jesús Ferreira? Ferreira is on a hot streak, having goals in his last two MLS matches as well as picking up the lone goal for the US squad in a friendly against Mexico yesterday. This could prove to be advantageous to New York City if fatigue plays a factor. However, at 5 goals this season and a stellar 23 goals in his last 41 games (Dallas’s leading scoring by a long shot), he still isn’t to be taken lightly.
2) How much will James Sands be available? Head coach Nick Cushing confirmed Sands will be available to play Saturday, who, like Ferreira played yesterday for USMNT. While acknowledging that playing three games in a week is not ideal, he also noted that the defender has extraordinary recovery
3) Can the club continue it’s Citi-Success? At 3-0-2 since they began playing there last season, the Mets home has been gold for the club. The fans seem to prefer that venue over Yankee Stadium (commute not withstanding) and the field is more conducive to soccer. Quick aside: As it stands now, NYCFC has 4 more matches at Citi Field this season after this game, and precisely ZERO at RBA.
4) Can NYCFC prevent late goals? Of the 9 goals conceded by NYC this season, 6 have come in in the 70th minute of the match or later. This is concerning as of the team’s 8 matches this season, they scored 1 goal or less in 6 of them.
