The offensive woes for the winless Burnaby Lakers continued as they dropped a 15-3 decision to the Victoria Shamrocks on Friday night in WLA action.

Playing on back-to-back nights, the Lakers were only able to manage eight goals between the two games as they fell to 0-5.

Victoria continues to right the ship. After losing to Langley on May 29, the Shamrocks improved to 3-1 to keep pace with the 4-0 Maple Ridge Burrards for first place.

Chris Origlieri got the start in goal for Victoria on Friday night and was outstanding, making 32 saves on 35 shots. Meanwhile, Marshal King and Zach Manns led the way with three goals and five assists each.

It was hard to fault the Lakers’ goaltenders. Keegan Melenychuk and Marc Rippberger each saw time in net. Combined, they faced a barrage of 62 shots.

First Period

Burnaby opened the scoring 3:26 into the game on a goal from Xander Cabeca. However, Victoria took over from there.

Brodie Wade scored at the 5:50 mark, and Manns scored on the power play at 8:17 to give Victoria a 2-1 lead.

King rounded out the three-goal run for the Shamrocks at 11:06.

Ethan M’Lot got the Lakers back on the board with the extra attacker on the floor at 12:10 to make it 3-2.

However, Denton MacDonald scored 32 seconds later to start a 12-goal run for the Shamrocks.

King rounded out the first-period scoring at the 13:35 mark as Victoria held a 5-2 lead at the first break.

Second Period

Origlieri completely shut down the Lakers in the second period, stopping all 12 shots he faced.

Dorian Connolly opened the scoring at 2:39, followed by Koen Block at 8:36.

Patrick Dodds made it 8-2 for the Shamrocks at the 14:00 mark, and Manns scored at 17:16. Dodds then set up Manns again 40 seconds later to make it 10-2 heading into the third period.

Third Period

Victoria kept rolling in the third period.

Chris Wardle scored 56 seconds into the frame, followed by Dodds on the power play at 3:40.

King scored unassisted at 4:51. Cole Pickup scored off an assist from Block at 12:32, and Luke Pilcher scored on the power play at 14:42 to round out the 12-goal run.

Cabeca ended the Lakers’ scoreless drought with 1:01 left, but the Lakers’ offensive woes continued as Victoria cruised to a 15-3 victory.
