The Oshawa FireWolves completed a home-and-home series sweep against the Philadelphia Wings with their second straight win on Friday night at the Tribute Communities Centre. Last week, Oshawa jumped out to a big start against Philly, leading 5-0 after the first quarter. This weekend, it was more of the same, as the FireWolves went all gas and no breaks on both sides of the ball. Oshawa led 4-0 after one quarter, gave up only one goal in the first half, and six total in an 11-6 victory. FireWolves goalie Doug Jamieson was the difference maker in net, stopping 39 out of 45 shots in the win.

The Oshawa Firewolves offense displayed another great start by creating havoc down low and finding open spots. Taking what Philly’s defense was giving them and making the best of every scoring opportunity. Forward Alex Simmons had himself quite the night with 7 points on 4 goals and 3 assists. Simmons has several teammates to thank for a great job of passing the ball around. Tye Kurtz had 6 assists to go with a goal on the night. And the newest member of the Oshawa offense, Ryan Benesch – signed after being released by Buffalo – made his presence felt with a pair of goals and 4 assists, racking up 6 points and moving into fourth place on the NLL’s all-time points list.

Looking past Oshawa and the trade deadline

The Philadelphia Wings suffered another tough loss as their offensive output sputtered for the third time in the last four games, but here are some of the bright spots. Dalton Young had his 3rd straight game where he has scored 2 or more goals. The newest member to the Philadelphia Wings, Lukas Nielsen (acquired from Buffalo) was also making an impact on this Wings team with a pair of goals. While not the result Philly wanted, they’ll focus on the positives and things that they can work on during their bye week before hosting Halifax and Toronto in a Week 18 doubleheader.
