The Riverhounds kicked off the Jagermeister Cup against Detroit FC, both clubs needing a valuable three points to keep pace in the Eastern Conference standings. The Riverhounds did everything offensively in the first half except put the ball in the net. Detroit FC allowed the Riverhounds a lot of time and space in the attacking third but lacked the finishing touch to score, and once again we saw the Riverhounds in another scoreless gridlock to close out the first half. The second half saw a more stiffening defensive approach by Detroit FC. In the 61st minute, Detroit FC almost scored off a set piece if it wasn’t for the magnificent save by the Riverhounds Goalkeeper Jacob Randolph starting today in place of Eric Dick. Approaching the 90-minute mark, both teams were still in a scoreless tie. It took until the second minute of Stoppage Time to see the first goal of the match scored by Darren Smith of Detroit FC. His third goal in Stoppage Time in the last three games (a very unique stat). Riverhounds made a push in the waning seconds of Stoppage Time, but to no avail, Detroit FC held on to win1-0. Detroit FC’s time of possession was 56% to the Riverhounds 44%. Detroit FC doubled the Riverhounds shots on goal by 8-4. The Riverhounds committed 16 fouls on 3 yellow cards to Detroit FC’s 6 on 1 yellow card. The Riverhounds will be back at home next Saturday, May 3rd, at 7:00 pm. against North Carolina FC at Highmark Stadium.
