Haiden Dickson scored the game-winner 3:26 into overtime as the Calgary Roughnecks picked up a 12-11 win and extended the Georgia Swarm’s losing streak to three games on Saturday night.

The good news for the Swarm was the fact that they had three Thompson brothers in the lineup. They welcomed Miles back to the squad after some injury troubles. He made an impact with a goal and an assist against Calgary.

Once again, Dane Dobbie played a huge role in Calgary’s win. He finished the game with a natural hat trick at a crucial time. Lyle Thompson had just scored two goals late in the third quarter to put the Swarm up 10-7. But it was Dobbie’s hat trick that put the Roughnecks back in the game.

Brett Dobson had a busy night in net for the Swarm, stopping 39 of 51 shots in the loss. On the other end of the floor, Cam McLeod stopped 29 of 40 shots.

Questions now remain as to how Georgia will get out of this funk. Meanwhile, Calgary continues to find ways to win as they improved their record to 3-2.

Swarm Take First Quarter Lead

Calgary got on the board first, just 30 seconds into the game, with Jesse King finding the back of the net. Brayden Mayea took a feed from King at the 2:36 mark, and the Roughnecks went ahead 2-0.

Georgia responded with a three-goal run. Andrew Kew scored at 7:43, followed by Miles Thompson at 10:20 on the power play to tie the game.

The Swarm took the lead 29 seconds later with Seth Oakes scoring late in the quarter.

Curtis Dickson would knot the game up 3-3 with 3:32 left in the first. However, Shayne Jackson scored a power-play marker with 22 seconds left, and Georgia led 4-3 at the first break.

Roughnecks Tie It Up

It was a back-and-forth second quarter as the two teams exchanged goals. Bennett Smith opened the second-quarter scoring for Calgary at 3:11 to once again tie the game 4-4.

Georgia retook the lead at 9:22 with Brendan Bomberry finding the back of the net. Yet Calgary responded right away. Tyler Pace scored 25 seconds later to make it 5-5.

Lyle Thompson made his presence felt, scoring with 1:28 left in the quarter as the Swarm jumped ahead again, 6-5. Curtis Dickson added another marker with 46 seconds on the clock, and the game was knotted at 6-6 at the half.

Swarm Come Out Flying in the Third

King scored for Calgary 11 seconds into the third quarter to give Calgary the lead, 7-6, but it turned out to be a wake-up call for the Swarm.

At the 2:59 mark, Calgary product Toron Eccleston scored his first career NLL goal for the Georgia Swarm to start a four-goal run.

Bryan Cole scored unassisted at 6:27, followed by Lyle Thompson on the power play at 7:57 as the Swarm went ahead 9-7. Lyle Thompson added to his tally with 3:37 on the clock to extend Georgia’s lead.

Enter Dane Dobbie. He scored 22 seconds later to get Calgary back within two. He scored again 30 seconds after that as the Roughnecks trailed 10-9 heading into the fourth quarter.

Haiden Dickson Scores OT Winner

Dobbie completed his natural hat trick at the 5:05 mark of the fourth quarter, and suddenly we had a ballgame, tied 10-10.

Jackson scored his second of the game with 4:42 left on the clock as the Swarm regained the lead, 11-10, in the late stages of the game.

However, Curtis Dickson potted one 23 seconds later to force overtime.

At the 3:26 mark of the extra frame, Tanner Cook found Haiden Dickson with a clear shot up the middle that got past Dobson to make the final 12-11 and extend Georgia’s losing streak to three games.
