Seals Rout Desert Dogs, Jump To 6th In Standings

The San Diego Seals dominated the Las Vegas Desert Dogs 20-11 at Pechanga Arena in their rematch from Week 8 on Sunday afternoon. Rob Hellyer and Wesley Berg each finished with six goals and six assists for 12 points on the day. The win puts the Seals back over .500 at 7-6, while Las Vegas drops to 3-11, all but eliminated from playoff contention.  

Seals explode in first half

The Seals’ offense exploded from the opening faceoff. Ben McIntosh, Cam Holding and Jake Govett scored once each, and Hellyer scored four times, including one on the power play. Berg had four assists, McIntosh two, and Govett, Hellyer, Ryan Benesch, and Zach Currier each had one. The Desert Dogs’ offense was a lone unassisted goal from Tyrell Hamer-Jackson. San Diego led 7-1 after one quarter. The Seals continued right where they left off in the second quarter. Berg and Hellyer scored two goals each, while Trent DiCicco and Currier scored once each. Benesch, Currier, Eli Gobrecht, Berg, Hellyer, and McIntosh recorded assists in the quarter. The Desert Dogs would score four goals, with Casey Jackson and Jackson Webster each getting one, while Jack Hannah scored two. Jonathan Donville, Brandon Goodwin, Jackson, Drew Belgrave, Jake Saunders and Justin Geddie recorded assists for Las Vegas. San Diego expand their lead to 13-5 at the half.

Desert Dogs unable to rally in the second half

Goodwin and Hannah would score once each, with one assist from Donville, during the third quarter for Las Vegas. However, the Seals got five goals – two each from Berg and Govett, and a power play goal from McIntosh. Benesch, Hellyer, Kellen LeClair, and Berg recorded assists. Going into the fourth quarter, the Seals expanded the lead to 18-7. Berg added two more goals in the fourth quarter, one of them on the power play. Las Vegas had a barrage of goals from Sean Westley, Kyle Killen, Belgrave, and Hannah. But it wasn’t enough as the Desert Dogs were too far behind to make up the ground, losing 20-11.
