Shamrocks Put Together Dominant Performance Against Salmonbellies

he Victoria Shamrocks put together a dominant performance in a lopsided 14-2 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies on Thursday night.

Victoria outshot New Westminster 56-45, with Chris Origlieri turning in an outstanding effort, stopping 43 of 45 shots.

The Shamrocks were led by Marshal King with two goals and six assists for eight points, while Patrick Dodds had two goals and five assists. Zach Manns finished with a hat trick and six points.

The win moves Victoria into sole possession of first place in the WLA standings with a 7-1 record, ahead of the Maple Ridge Burrards at 6-2.

First Period

Victoria took control of the game early, putting together a six-goal run that stretched between the first and second periods.

Origlieri stopped all 15 shots he faced in the opening period to blank the Salmonbellies.

Manns opened the scoring 47 seconds into the game. Eli McLaughlin scored with 5:48 left on the clock on a delayed penalty as the Shamrocks led 2-0 after the first period.

Second Period

Victoria kept rolling in the second period, scoring four more unanswered goals.

Marshal King scored 1:48 into the period off a feed from Dodds to open the second-period scoring.

Brodie Wade then found the back of the net at the 2:33 mark to make it 4-0.

Colt Gnegy found Denton MacDonald at 10:35 to give Victoria a five-goal lead.

Luke Pilcher rounded out the six-goal run with 1:31 left on the clock with a shorthanded marker.

After going scoreless for 38:48, Lukas Nielsen got the Salmonbellies on the board on the power play as New Westminster trailed 6-1 heading into the third period.

Third Period

The Shamrocks refused to let up in the third period, putting together a four-goal run.

King started the run on a delayed penalty at the 3:16 mark. Manns followed with an unassisted goal at 4:20.

Koen Block scored off a feed from Mathieu Gautier 20 seconds later to put the Shamrocks ahead 9-1.

Dodds rounded out the four-goal run at the 8:35 mark to put Victoria up by nine.

Owen Rahn scored New Westminster’s second goal of the game on a delayed penalty at the 10:37 mark.

Victoria ended the game with four straight power-play goals.

McLaughlin started the run at the 12:42 mark, followed shortly after by Pilcher.

Dodds scored on the power play with 4:16 left on the clock, and Manns capped off the dominant performance with 49 seconds remaining to make the final 14-2.
