The Peterborough Lakers (5-7) traveled west to face the Six Nations Chiefs (8-1) in game five of the Major Series Lacrosse finals at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Haggersville, Ontario.
The Lakers once again had their backs against the wall, down 3-1 in the series.
The goaltending match-up had Drew Hutchison in net for the Lakers facing Warren Hill in net for the Chiefs.
The Six Nations Chiefs were on a mission to end the series. Led by Ryan Smith (2g,1a), Josh Byrne (2g,2a), and Dhane Smith (2g,3a) the Chiefs scored early, and kept control of the game throughout.
Up 7-2, Six Nations chased starting goalie Drew Hutchison in favor of Nick Rose, promptly welcoming him to the game 0:31 seconds later.
Tempers boiled over in the third, giving Peterborough opportunities on the power-play. Although the Lakers scored a couple of power-play goals, it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit. Six Nations wins the game 12-7, to win the series 4-1.
The Chiefs will now face the New Westminster Salmonbellies in the Mann Cup as they try to three-peat as champion.
To The Game:
Six Nations opened the scoring with Ryan Smith putting it over Drew Hutchison’s shoulder off a Dhane Smith pass at 2:44, followed by Josh Byrne with a laser to the shortside off a Dhane Smith pass at 11:11.
Jordan Stouros answered for Peterborough on a loose ball pickup going coast to coast unassisted at 12:54, but Shayne Jackson and Lyle Thompson replied late in the period to give the Chiefs a three goal lead at the break.
After one period, Six Nations 4 Peterborough 1.
Second Period:
Six Nations increased their lead when Ryan Smith scored with a blast from the front of the net off a Steve Priolo pass at 6:50, but the Lakers replied with Justin Sykes firing a high to high shot to the far corner off a Joe Resetarits pass at 11:32.
Dhane Smith then scored back to back goals. His first was shorthanded off a floater from the outside off a Lyle Thompson pass at 13:31, foĺlowed by highlight reel goal on a great individual effort at 16:13.
The Lakers replaced Drew Hutchison in net with Nick Rose.
Ryan Smith welcomed Nick Rose to the game with a blast off a Brendan Bomberry pass at 16:44, but Braedon Saris replied on the power-play to try to keep the Lakers in the game at 19:38.
After two periods, Six Nations 8 Peterborough 3.

Third Period:
Ian MacKay increased the Chiefs lead with a shot through the five-hole off a Ryan Smith pass 0:35 seconds into the third period.
Tempers finally boiled over between the teams at the 6:00.mark with a number of squirmishes breaking out. However, after all was said and done Six Nations would be two men down.
The Lakers got moving with a power-play goal from Joe Resetarits on a sidearm snipe at 7:41, followed by Mike Robinson also on the power-play 0:22 seconds later also from the outside.
Matt Marinier, with a great individual effort going coast to coast, grabbed a loose ball and made no mistake at 10:57, increasing the Chiefs lead to five.
Braedon Saris fired a howitzer high to high, followed by Justin Sykes with a goal in transition off a Jake Withers feed 0:16 seconds later to have the Lakers climb back into the game again, down by only three.
Josh Byrne added a goal on a spin-a-rama move off an Ian MacKay pass at 16:50, followed by an empty net goal from Tyson Bell at 17:24 to put the game on ice.
Final score, Six Nations 12 Peterborough 7.
