The Six Nations Chiefs (2-0) visited the Owen Sound North Stars (0-2) in game two of the Major Series Lacrosse semi-final at the Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre Tuesday night.
The goaltending match-up had Doug Jamieson in net for the Chiefs facing Andrew Kidd in net for the North Stars.
Owen Sound had a good showing to start the game getting up 3-1 in the first half of the first period. However, Six Nations showed how potent a lineup they had scoring four unanswered goals to regain control. The Chiefs got into a bit of penalty trouble at the end of the period with Jackson Webster taking advantage to bring the game within one at the break.
The second period, in what had to be the most exciting period in the playoffs so far, Owen Sound outscored the Six Nations Chiefs 4-3 in an absolute track meet. The action went end to end all period with the upstart North Stars giving Six Nations all they could handle, setting up an epic finish in the third period.
The North Stars looked like they were going to grab the victory leading for the majority of the third period. However, four goals in 2:38 had the Chiefs up by three with only a few minutes to go. Owen Sound tried to get back on track, but Six Nations was too strong, defeating the North Stars 12-9 for a 2-0 series lead.
To The Game:
Six Nations got on the board with Josh Byrne rolling through the defense with a high to low shot off a Lyle Thompson pass at 2:01, but Tanner Buck answered back with a twister on the power-play at 7:11.
The North Stars took their first lead when Braydon Mayea scored from in close with a low to low shot 0:19 seconds later, followed by a howitzer from the outside from Xander Derkatz at 8:47 for a 3-1 North Stars lead.
Josh Byrne got his second of the night converting a Dhane Smith pass at 10:13, followed by Dhane Smith firing a high to low shot off a Josh Byrne feed at 13:01 to tie the game.
Ryan Smith then gave the Chiefs the lead with a shot that just beat Andrew Kidd off a Dhane Smith pass at 15:21, followed by Steve Priolo finishing a Dhane Smith pass at 18:24.
Jackson Webster scored on a two man advantage to bring Owen Sound within one at 19:26.
After one period, Six Nations 5 Owen Sound 4.
Second Period:
Tanner Buck tied the game with a great individual effort scoring one handed at 5:42, but Lyle Thompson replied converting an Brendan Bomberry rebound at 7:29.
The North Stars tied the game once again when Braydon Mayea went in all alone beating Doug Jamieson at 12:20, but Dawson Theede converted a Brendan Bomberry feed at 15:12 to regain the Chiefs lead once again.
On a delayed penalty, Braydon Mayea fired an absolute howitzer to the far corner tying the game at 16:15, but Ian MacKay gave the Chiefs the lead converting a rebound from a Ryan Smith shot that rang off the post at 18:56.
Tanner Buck then beat Doug Jamieson through the five-hole off a Greg Elijah-Brown feed 0:25 seconds later to tie the game heading to the intermission.
After two periods, Six Nations 8 Owen Sound 8.

Third Period:
Braydon Mayea opened the third period scoring for Owen Sound scoring from in close at 2:23, but Matt Marinier scored on a turnover, going in all alone at 13:01 to tie the game.
Nonkon Thompson scored in transition converting a Steve Priolo pass 0:17 seconds later to put the Chiefs back in the lead, followed by Larson Sundown converting a Lyle Thompson pass at 14:42. Dhane Smith added a power-play goal at 15:39 to increase the lead to three goals.
Final score, Six Nations 12 Owen Sound 9.
