The Riverhounds opened Saturday night’s matchup against Phoenix Rising FC at the newly renamed FNB Stadium on an unusually chilly evening, entering the contest with a flawless 6–0 home record across all competitions. The night also marked the return of former Pittsburgh defender Luke Biasi, who joined Phoenix in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

The first half was defined by physical play and disciplined defending from both sides, but neither team managed to break through. Phoenix held a 55.9% to 44.1% advantage in possession, yet the match remained scoreless at the break.

The second half began much like the first, with both sides struggling to generate clear attacking chances until Phoenix finally broke the deadlock. Ihsan Sacko put the visitors ahead with a left‑footed strike from the center of the box, driving his shot into the top of the net. Pittsburgh nearly equalized in the 79th minute when Max Viera rose for a header in the center of the box, narrowly missing wide right on a well‑delivered cross from Eliot Goldthorp.

The Riverhounds were unable to find a late equalizer, and the match concluded with Phoenix earning a 1–0 victory. Pittsburgh will look to rebound next Saturday, May 9, when they travel to face Louisville City FC.
