The Vancouver Warriors visited the ScotiaBank Saddledome Friday night for their only meeting with the Calgary Roughnecks this season. Calgary was coming off their first win of the season last week against San Diego. Meanwhile, the Warriors had won two in a row after dropping their season opener. Former Roughneck Curtis Dickson scored four goals, including the game-winner in overtime, as Vancouver won 11-10 to improve to 3-1 on the season. Calgary falls to 1-4, and now sits alone in last place in the standings.

Vancouver takes advantage on the man-advantage in the first half
Curtis Dickson got things started quickly, scoring on a power play (1:33) for a 1-0 Vancouver lead. Brayden Mayea responded 50 seconds later for Calgary, then Tanner Cook (12:10) put the Roughnecks up 2-1. Marcus Klarich (13:38) equalized for Vancouver to tie the game 2-2 after one quarter of play.
Dickson struck again on the power play (0:24 second quarter) to put the Warriors back in front, but Calgary tied the game again when Haiden Dickson scored at the 3:08 mark. Vancouver regained the lead again on a transition goal from Shane Simpson (4:07) and a goal from Adam Charalambides (5:57). However, Cook’s second goal (6:25) and Riley Loewen (7:46) tied the game at 5-5. Jesse King netted a third power play goal for Vancouver (9:13), then Keegan Bal scored with one second left in the quarter to put the Warriors up 7-5 at the half.

Curtis Dickson the hero for Vancouver in overtime
The Warriors extended their lead in the third quarter. Ryan Dilks (0:22), Curtis Dickson’s third power play goal (3:05), and King’s second power play goal (12:10) gave Vancouver a 10-5 lead. But Calgary would claw their way back into the game, starting with Haiden Dickson’s second goal (13:34) to cut the deficit to 10-6 going after three quarters.
The fourth quarter was all Roughnecks. A pair of goals from Tyler Pace (2:06; 5:53) and two more from Cook (8:40 power play; 12:38) leveled the game at 10-10. Calgary goaltender Aden Walsh turned aside every Vancouver shot in the fourth quarter to force overtime. However, just under three minutes into the extra frame (2:57), Curtis Dickson would end it with his fourth goal of the game.
