
The Oakville Rock (2-5) traveled east to face the Cobourg Kodiaks (3-5) in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Cobourg Community Centre Sunday evening.
The goaltending match-up had Landon Kells in net for Oakville facing Jackson Brown in net for Cobourg.
Oakville took control of this game early, and rode it all the way to victory. Tied 1-1 in the first, the Rock rhythmed off three late period goals to get and stay in the lead.
The second period saw the Kodiaks get more feisty and aggressive. Scoring three in the period, including two shorthanded goals, Cobourg battled to within one goal. However, a late goal from Ty English gave Oakville a bit of breathing room heading to the third period.
In the third, both Landon Kells and Jackson Brown took over, making a plethora of saves throughout the frame. Oakville hung on for an 8-5 win.
To The Game:
Oakville got rolling early with Luke Robinson converting a crisp Josh Dawick pass at 2:10, but the Kodiaks answered when Aaron Woods finished a Brock Haley pass from in close at 6:27.
Robinson got his second of the period with a low to low laser off a Carson Moyer pass at 15:50, followed by Zane Dalpe blasting a Moyer feed to the top corner at 17:09. Chris Weier then scored in transition off a Zack Kearney pass at 18:17.
After one period, Oakville 4 Cobourg 1.
Second Period:
Aaron Woods opened the second period scoring for Cobourg with his second of the game unassisted at just 0:26 seconds, but Carson Moyer answered back for the Rock with a great move in close off a Chris Weier lead pass at 4:30.
The Kodiaks started pressing while killing a Matt Marinier roughing penalty. Curtis Romancych finished a Taylor Dooley pass in transition at 8:15, followed by Alex Marinier converting a Jake Harrington pass at 9:38 both shorthanded to bring Cobourg within one goal.
Ty English gave the Rock a little breathing room with an outside blast off a Luke Robinson pass at 14:34 to open a two goal lead once more.
After two periods, Oakville 6 Cobourg 4.

Third Period:
Carson Moyer continued his big night with an early third period marker off a Gavin Thibeault pass at 3:23, opening a three goal Rock lead.
Brock Haley got the Kodiaks a little closer with a high to low shot off an Alex Marinier pass at 10:54, but Jack McAlpine answered back for Oakville with a sidearm snipe to the corner off a Ty English pass at 11:27.
The goalies then took over from this point, not allowing anything to pass the rest of the way.
Final score, Oakville 8 Cobourg 5.
Shots on goal favored Oakville 51-50
