The Philadelphia Union home opener did not disappoint. The Union showed up energized and ready battle. Within the first 5 minutes we saw a major change from last year. The Union were quick on their feet, decisive when handling the ball, and solidly working as a team. They controlled the ball and kept it to their opponents side for most of the game. There must have been 8-10 shots on Cincinatti’s goal this evening.
Tai Baribo had a phenomenal night, earning his first hat trick of 2025. Baribo took advantage of every opportunity presented before him. Kai Wagner speedily broke free at 5 minutes and lined up a beautiful layup for Baribo.
At 30 minutes, the Union had a bit of a nail biter. Last second Daniel Gazdag passed the ball to Tai Baribo who locked in his second goal of the evening. Immediately there was a flag on the field and the play was called off sides and not counted. The referee had us all holding our breath as he reviewed the recording and determined it was in fact another Union goal.
Baribo’s third goal was another beautiful example of teamwork between him and Daniel Gazdag. Gazdag and Baribo had shots back and forth, and quick recovery several times before Baribo was able to sink his last goal of the evening.
Towards the end, it was nice to see Cavan Sullivan, and Bruno Damiani get some time on the field in the last 10 minutes. Within 2 minutes of entering the Game Damiani bolted at a beautiful pass set up by Quinn Sullivan, and slid in to sink his first goal with the Union, wrapping up a solid 4-1 victory over Cincinnati.
