The Riverhounds opened the night by unveiling their championship banner, and almost immediately they looked every bit like the squad that lifted the trophy last season. The early pressure paid off in the 6th minute when F Albert Dikwa found space in the center of the box and curled a right footed shot into the top right corner, giving Pittsburgh a 1–0 lead and sending Highmark Stadium into celebration.

Sporting JAX settled in after the early goal and began trading blows with the Hounds, eventually earning a free kick deep in their own half in the 25th minute. But just as the visitors seemed to be finding their footing, Pittsburgh struck again.

In the 27th minute, M Sam Bassett stepped into space outside the box and unleashed a right footed rocket to the top left corner, a stunning finish that pushed the lead to 2–0 and ignited Highmark Stadium all over again.

Sporting Jax wasted no time and came alive with a set piece goal from D Mohamed Traore ssisted by M Jordan Rossiter following a corner. M Traore from the center of the box buried the ball in the bottom left corner of the goal.

Sporting Jax wasn’t happy with just one goal, four minutes later, F Emil Jääskeläinen, guided a right footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner, assisted by D Harvey Neville 3-2 Hounds. The fireworks show came early for the fans tonight.

The Hounds settled into a disciplined rhythm, and with a series of well timed, strategic substitutions from manager Rob Vincent, they managed the game with composure. Sporting JAX continued to push, but Pittsburgh absorbed the pressure and protected their lead with grit. When the final whistle blew, the Hounds had earned a hard fought 3–2 victory—an opening night result worthy of a championship celebration.
