On Saturday night, the Albany FireWolves hosted the Calgary Roughnecks in a game that featured both a defensive standoff and an explosive shootout near the end. Dane Dobbie’s historic eight-goal
performance, including a record-setting seven goals in the fourth quarter alone, propelled the Roughnecks to a thrilling comeback victory, winning 13-12 in overtime. Dobbie’s remarkable feat set a new NLL record for the most goals scored in a single quarter.
MacLeod keeps Roughnecks within striking distance
The FireWolves wasted no time taking the lead, but the Roughnecks demonstrated resilience from the start, embodying the same “never say die” mantra they showed against the Thunderbirds. Albany ended the first quarter with a three-goal advantage, but thanks to goalie Cam MacLeod’s clutch saves, Calgary stayed within striking distance. The second quarter was a more subdued affair, with only three goals scored between the two teams. It became a battle for ball possession, and the Roughnecks went into halftime trailing by
just two.

Dobbie carries Roughnecks to another comeback victory
As the third quarter began, Albany seemed poised to pull away. However, MacLeod once again came to Calgary’s rescue, keeping the Roughnecks within three as they entered the final quarter. After three quarters of defensive battles, the fourth became a historic shootout. The Roughnecks fell behind by four goals early in the fourth—twice—but it was Dane Dobbie who took control. Dobbie scored seven goals in the quarter, including a four-goal run that tied the game at 10 apiece. Each time Albany managed to score, Dobbie responded immediately,
keeping Calgary alive. His relentless determination forced overtime for the second straight game in Albany, and once again, the FireWolves fell short in OT.

Key Performers
FireWolves
Despite the loss, Albany had notable offensive performances, with five players recording four or more points. Ethan Walker and Tye Kurtz each tallied hat tricks, while Alex Simmons and Eric Fannell excelled as playmakers.
Roughnecks
Dane Dobbie was the undeniable star, contributing to Calgary’s final eight goals. However, the Roughnecks’ success was a team effort. Five players recorded five or more points, with Curtis Dickson and Tanner Cook leading the scoring charge before Dobbie’s heroics. Meanwhile, Tyler Pace and Jesse King played key roles as facilitators.
Looking Ahead
Both Albany and Calgary will have a week off to rest. This break provides the FireWolves an opportunity to regroup before traveling to Halifax to face the Thunderbirds in two weeks. The Roughnecks, on the other hand, will return home to host the Vancouver Warriors, finally getting a chance to play in front of their home crowd.
