The Riverhounds entered the match on a two game slide, looking to get back in the win column against Louisville City FC. The game opened at a high tempo, with both sides trading early attempts as they fought to establish possession.
Louisville applied pressure in the fifth minute, earning a succession of corners that tested the Hounds’ back line. Pittsburgh handled the sequence well, clearing each delivery without allowing a clean look on goal.
In the 13th minute, Louisville D Kyle Adams was whistled for a handball and shown a yellow card, giving the Hounds a dangerous set piece opportunity. Louisville’s defense stayed organized and cleared the ensuing ball.
Three minutes later, Hounds M Danny Griffin created the best chance of the early going, firing a right footed effort from the left side of the six-yard box toward the bottom-left corner. Louisville GK Danny Faundez reacted sharply and pushed the shot aside.
Louisville answered in the 20th minute when D Sean Totsch rose for a header, but his attempt sailed high over the bar. The teams continued to trade half-chances as the match moved into the hydration break still level at 0–0.
Coming out of the hydration break, Hounds D Victor Souza went into the book for a heavy challenge, but the caution didn’t shift the rhythm of the match. Both teams kept things balanced, sharing possession and generating modest looks at goal. After a tightly contested opening 45 minutes, the sides headed to the locker rooms level at 0–0.
The second half exploded to life as the Hounds came out with overwhelming intensity. In the 47th minute, F Trevor Amann ignited the crowd, smashing a right footed shot from distance into the top left corner off a feed from Jackson Wälti to make it 1–0. Before Louisville could regroup, Armon struck again—this time rising to redirect a Perrin Barnes cross with a pinpoint header into the top right corner. And unbelievably, two minutes later, he finished the hat trick, heading home from close range on a Robbie Mertz delivery to push the lead to 3–0. His three goals in 3 minutes and 27 seconds set a new USL record for the fastest hat trick ever scored.
After the breathtaking burst, the match calmed. Louisville pulled one back from the spot after D Victor Souza was whistled for a handball, with F Jansen Wilson converting to make it 3–1. The match continued on and settled as each team made substitutions for the stretch run.
Louisville earned a free kick just outside the box in the 87th minute and pressed the Hounds backline again. They responded accordingly and cleared the threat. With 6 minutes of stoppage time, the Hounds were able to hold on and earn a well deserved 3 points. The Hounds are at home next week as they host Rhode Island FC.
